What Kept Me Awake

This is from Jonathan Larson’s Rent.  The song is “Goodbye Love”:

Roger:  All your words are nice, Mimi,
but love’s not a three-way street.
 three-way street

I can’t figure it out.  As soon as you add a third direction, it’s no longer a street, right?  It’s some kind of parking arrangement, or a separate street.  Love is not a three-way street, but only because nothing is a three-way street.  Roger should have sung:

Roger:  All your words are nice, Mimi,
but everything’s not what nothing is.

    • But wouldn’t that be an intersection of five different streets?

All your words are nice, Mimi
      But love’s not a five-way roundabout.

Which is silly, because love is clearly just that.
